Citroën Berlingo Blaze
Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle (WAV)

Back to results

A comfortable & spacious WAV designed around you

The Citroën Berlingo Blaze is a compact wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) built around everyday journeys: the school run, work, appointments and days out. The user travels behind the seats, with the driver and family ahead, and the Blaze keeps the size and road manners of the standard Berlingo. Need to carry more people alongside them? The Blaze XL is the longer version.

Standard seating is three passengers plus the wheelchair user, with an optional extra seat in that second row taking it to four. A manual or automatic gearbox is available, so the drive suits whoever is behind the wheel most often.

Boarding is through a 31″ (775 mm) entrance at the back. The bi-fold wheelchair ramp is a low 13 degree gradient with a 350 kg safe working load, so pushing up takes little effort, and the lowered floor gives 55″ (1402 mm) of maximum headroom.

Two trim levels are offered, Plus and Max. Both carry a 10″ touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital driver’s display and parking sensors. Max adds dual zone climate control, a reversing camera, electric side windows and heated leather trim.

Safety tested to EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval and fully compatible with PAS 2012, the UK standard for wheelchair accessible vehicles, every Blaze leaves our Devon workshops with high-quality four point restraints as standard, upgradeable to 200 kg at no cost on the Motability Scheme.

GM Coachwork built the first accessible Citroën Berlingo WAV in 2009 and has been converting vehicles here since 1988, and every Blaze comes with our three-year conversion warranty.

Private Purchase from: £30,495
Part exchange welcome, nationwide home demonstrations and a three-year conversion warranty.

Wheelchair access, ramp and dimensions

Here the user travels at the back, behind the seats, so floor height decides both headroom and the view out. Like all our WAVs, the Blaze starts with a lowered floor, giving 55″ (1402 mm) over the travelling position.

When comparing vehicles, check the entrance and travelling position against your own chair, and the safe working load against the chair’s weight with you in it. Anything close is a reason to book a home demonstration rather than rely on a tape measure.

Citroën Berlingo Blaze FAQs

Yes. The Citroën Berlingo Blaze is available on the Motability Scheme from an Advance Payment of £3,795, provided you receive a qualifying mobility allowance with at least 12 months left to run. That payment is the only amount due up front. The rest of the five-year lease comes from your allowance and covers insurance for up to three named drivers, servicing, maintenance and MOT, RAC breakdown cover, replacement tyres, windscreen repair or replacement and vehicle tax.

A range of adaptations is fitted at no cost when you order, including easy release handbrake and gearshift, pedal extensions, hand controls, steering aids and the restraint upgrade to 200 kg. New to the scheme? Our guide to buying a Motability vehicle explains the steps, and what is Motability covers how the allowance and lease work.

There are two routes. On the Motability Scheme the Blaze starts from a £3,795 Advance Payment, with the rest of the lease met from your weekly allowance in the usual way.

To buy outright, prices start from £30,495 and part exchange is welcome. VAT relief may apply where a wheelchair accessible vehicle is bought for a disabled person’s personal use, and we will explain the position when we quote. You can compare it with our other new WAVs among the wheelchair accessible vehicles for sale, and every Blaze comes with our three-year conversion warranty.

Standard seating is three passengers plus the wheelchair user: a passenger seat beside the driver and a two-seat second row, with the travelling position behind them. An optional extra seat in that row takes it to four seated passengers. Seating is chosen when you order, so tell us who usually travels and we will show you which layout fits. Two trim levels are offered, Plus and Max, and each takes the same layouts; they differ on equipment rather than capacity.

Check three figures against your own chair: the entrance, 31″ (775 mm) wide by 54″ (1367 mm) high; the travelling position, 31″ (775 mm) wide by 54″ (1380 mm) long with 55″ (1402 mm) of maximum headroom; and the ramp’s 350 kg safe working load, which has to cover the chair with you in it. If yours is close on any of them, book a home demonstration. We bring vehicles to your door anywhere in the UK, with no obligation, so you can try the ramp and the travelling position for real.

The Blaze starts life as a standard Berlingo. We remove the original floor behind the second row and lower it, which creates both the 55″ (1402 mm) of headroom and the shallow 13 degree gradient. The suspension and exhaust are reworked to suit the new floor line, and the tailgate aperture is adapted to take the bi-fold boarding ramp. Four point restraints and an adjustable lap and diagonal seatbelt are then fitted for the user.

Options fitted at build include a winch and a powered tailgate for one-touch operation. Every finished vehicle is tested to EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval and is fully compatible with PAS 2012, the UK standard for wheelchair accessible vehicles. GM Coachwork built the first Citroën Berlingo WAV in 2009 and has been converting vehicles here since 1988.

Yes. The Blaze is available with a manual or an automatic gearbox, in either the Plus or the Max model. Which engines are current changes with the base vehicle, so speak to our team and we will confirm what is available to order now and arrange a home demonstration so you can drive it.
